Why Practice With Clock Worksheets

Reading an analogue clock is really two skills at once — recognising what each hand means, and translating hand positions into hours and minutes. Reading clocks builds the first; drawing the hands forces the second, because the child must work backwards from the time to the positions. Practising both directions, a level at a time — o'clock, half past, quarters, then minutes — is how the skill becomes automatic. A printed sheet keeps it hands-on and screen-free.

Are these telling-the-time worksheets free and printable? +

What's the difference between “read” and “draw” sheets? +

Read the clock shows a clock with its hands set, and the child writes the time on the line below. Draw the hands is the reverse — a blank clock face with the time printed underneath, and the child draws the hour and minute hands. Pick Mixed to shuffle both on one sheet.

Which levels of time-telling are covered? +

Five levels: o'clock only, o'clock & half past, quarter hours, five-minute times, and any minute. They match the usual school progression, so you can print exactly the level a child is working on and step up when they're ready.

Why are the hands different colours? +

By default the short hour hand is red and the long minute hand is blue — a common classroom aid that helps beginners keep the two hands apart. Switch to plain black hands in advanced options once that's no longer needed.

Can I include an answer key? +

Yes — set Answer key to “Yes” and a matching answer sheet is generated after the worksheet, showing every clock with its hands in place and the time written underneath, for both read and draw questions.

How do I print or save as a PDF? +

Click Print / Save PDF. In the dialog, pick your printer or choose “Save as PDF”. For the cleanest result, turn off “Headers and footers” and keep margins at Default. The clocks are drawn as vector graphics, so they print sharp at any size.
